Mt. Zion Lutheran Church is a family-sized LCMS congregation in northern Peoria offering traditional Lutheran worship and a strong emphasis on the Word of God and the Sacraments.
For someone coming from Saint Peter’s, much about Mt. Zion should feel familiar.
The congregation worships using the historic Lutheran liturgy, with Scripture readings, hymns, preaching, the creeds, prayer, and the Lord’s Supper at the center of its life together. Mt. Zion describes itself as a traditional Lutheran congregation and maintains the historic teachings of the Lutheran Church as confessed in the Book of Concord.
Its size is another reason we think members of Saint Peter’s might feel at home there. Mt. Zion is not a large suburban megachurch. It is a relatively small parish where the pastor knows his people and members worship and study God’s Word together as a congregation.
Visitors will also find a strong emphasis on Bible study and prayer. Sunday Bible study follows the Divine Service, with additional opportunities to gather around God’s Word during the week.

Apostles Lutheran Church

Apostles Lutheran Church is another congregation of the Lutheran Church—Missouri Synod serving Peoria.
The congregation has served the area since 1979 and offers Sunday worship along with Sunday School, Bible class, and other opportunities for Christian education and fellowship.
Because Apostles is an LCMS congregation, visitors from Saint Peter’s will share the same basic Lutheran confession of faith even though the style and character of congregational life may differ from what we’re accustomed to in rural Door County.
For Saint Peter’s members staying in a different part of Peoria, Apostles may also be a convenient LCMS option.
Life in Christ Lutheran Church

Life in Christ Lutheran Church is a larger LCMS congregation in Peoria offering several Sunday services and a broad range of ministries.
Its traditional services incorporate Lutheran liturgy, hymns, and organ music. The congregation also offers a blended service using modern Christian music and a praise band.
Life in Christ has the programs and ministries one might expect from a considerably larger suburban congregation, including ministries for children and youth, Bible studies, and a Deaf ministry.
That means the experience may be somewhat less familiar to members accustomed to a smaller parish like Saint Peter’s, but it remains an LCMS congregation where visitors can hear God’s Word and receive the Sacrament according to our common Lutheran confession.
Visiting an LCMS Church Away From Home
One of the blessings of belonging to a larger church body is knowing that there are faithful Lutheran congregations throughout the country.
Individual LCMS churches can look surprisingly different from one another. A congregation in suburban Phoenix naturally develops differently from a rural congregation in Door County. Buildings, music, schedules, congregation sizes, and local customs can all vary.
But those things aren’t ultimately what unite us.
We are united by the confession that Holy Scripture is God’s Word and by our common confession of Jesus Christ crucified and risen for sinners. We confess together that Baptism is God’s gracious work, that Christ truly gives His body and blood in the Lord’s Supper, and that sinners are justified before God by grace through faith for Christ’s sake.
So if your travels take you to Peoria, Arizona, there are several LCMS congregations available to you.
For members and friends of Saint Peter’s, we would especially suggest beginning with Mt. Zion Lutheran Church. Its traditional worship, family-sized congregation, and emphasis on Word and Sacrament should make it a particularly familiar place to attend Divine Service while you’re away from Door County.
