Christian Mission locally, domestically, and internationally
Jesus commanded His Church to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:16). That’s why Saint Peter’s takes Christian mission seriously to spread the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
Here are some of the ways Saint Peter’s engages in Christian mission:
The Stillwater Sermoncast – weekly sermon radio broadcast (WDOR, Sundays at 8:05 AM) and podcast
Lutheran Women In Mission / Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) – an active women’s organization focusing on empowering women to share the Gospel and support Gospel mission globally
Youth Mission Trips – week-long summer journeys of service and Christian witness
Hispanic Ministry – material, cultural, and spiritual support for Latino immigrants to Door County, Kewaunee County, and Brown County
International Missionary Support – support for Lutheran missionaries around the world
Personal witness – members are equipped and encouraged to share the Gospel with their family members and friends
The Foundation of Christian Mission
Christian Mission, the making of disciples of Jesus Christ through preaching, teaching, and the Sacrament of Holy Baptism, is founded on the mission of God and the command of Christ.
The Mission of God
Christian Mission is founded on the mission of God. Even before the foundation of the world, the Father’s will was to draw a people unto Himself through His Son and by the power of the Holy Spirit.
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will (Ephesians 1:3-5, ESV).
The Command of Christ
Chris has co-missioned His people into this work of gathering a people unto Himself. The Church accomplishes this task through the preaching of the Gospel, teaching the Faith, and initiating others into the Faith through Holy Baptism.
Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matthew 28:19-20, ESV)
